Kompost smo vzorčili vsakih 14 dni in iz vzorcev z deionizirano vodo naredili vodne ekstrakte v razmerju 1:10, s katerimi smo omočili semena solate v petrijevkah.

Title:Lettuce Germination as a Maturity Indicator of a Spent Mushroom Substrate Compost
Abstract:Spent substrate, which is produced during the cultivation of oyster mushrooms can potentially serve as an organic fertilizer. A germination test on lettuce was conducted to determine when the composted substrate would be suitable for further plant fertilization. The spent mushroom substrate (SMS) was composted for 84 days. The compost was sampled every 14 days and water extracts were made using deionized water at a 1:10 ratio. These extracts were then used to moisten lettuce seeds in Petri dishes. The germination process was recorded every 24 hours over a period of seven days. After seven days, the lengths of the roots and the above-ground parts were measured using images and a computer program. Total germination, germination rate, total germination rate, and germination speed coefficient, were also calculated. The germination rate of lettuce in the water extract of SMS composted for 0, 42, 56, 70, and 84 days was the same as in deionized water (82.1–93.2%). The calculated indices, which consider the final germination and the dynamics of seed germination show significantly better results in the control and the longest-composted SMS (K: 84). Extracts of SMS composted for 0, 42, 56, 70, and 84 days allow lettuce seedlings to grow more successfully than in deionized water (plant length 44.4 mm), with a significantly greater length (53.1–59.5 mm). Based on the germination test results, un-composted SMS and SMS composted for more than 42 days are suitable for use as a fertilizer.
