Abstract:Diplomsko delo obravnava in analizira značilnosti ekonomske neenakosti v petih izbranih evropskih državah: Danski, Finski, Norveški, Švedski in Združenem kraljestvu. V vseh modelih z izjemo Norveške smo uspeli potrditi vse predpostavke metode najmanjših kvadratov. Pri proučevanju dejavnikov premoženjske neenakosti so se v različnih kombinacijah izkazale za statistično značilne BDP na prebivalca indeks cen življenjskih potrebščin, zaposlenost in brezposelnost.

Title:Characteristics of economic inequality in selected european countries
Abstract:The thesis discusses and analyses the characteristics of economic inequality in five selected European countries: Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. We analysed the differences in income and wealth inequality between selected countries in the period from 2000 to 2020, incorporating key economic indicators such as the Gini coefficient, the Palma ratio and the size distribution of income and wealth in order to determine the differences in inequality between the countries studied. The results show that income inequality has been increasing in most of the countries under review over the past decade. Significant differences have emerged between the observed Nordic countries, which are known for their high standards of social justice and low economic inequality, especially in the area of wealth inequality. Despite the Nordic countries' general reputation for low levels of income inequality, wealth inequality has become increasingly pronounced, suggesting that wealth inequality is growing faster than income inequality. The United Kingdom, which is also one of the most developed economies, has a higher level of income inequality compared to other countries under review. This level has increased further during the period of recent economic turmoil, which means that problems with social justice and economic inequality have deepened. In the empirical part, we used the method of least squares to estimate models of wealth inequality for individual countries. In all models with the exception of Norway, we managed to confirm all the assumptions of the method of least squares. When examining the factors of wealth inequality, GDP per capita, the consumer price index, employment and unemployment proved to be statistically significant in various combinations.
Keywords:economic inequality, least squares method, Nordic countries, United Kingdom, macroeconomic factors.
