Title:The impact of imprisonment on the psychological state and behavior of prisoners
Abstract:Prison often has a negative impact on the mental, physical and social well-being of prisoners. Prisons and prison conditions vary widely around the world, but they certainly leave consequences on everyone. Adjusting to the prison environment is a complex process that can cause psychological strain, especially for first-time prisoners. Factors such as isolation, separation from family, loss of freedom and exposure to stress have a profound impact on their psychological state and behaviour, leading to a higher rate of mental disorders compared to the general population. Environmental factors such as exposure to violence, harsh regimes and poor care further exacerbate the situation. The prison environment not only affects the individual during his/her sentence, but also his/her reintegration after release, which is why the treatment and rehabilitation of prisoners is of great importance. After release, ex-prisoners face barriers such as reduced social status, prejudice and difficulties in adjusting to everyday life. Psychological influences such as guilt, boredom and hostility towards society make social relations and finding a job difficult. In order to reduce recidivism and enable prisoners to reintegrate successfully into society, it is important that prisoners receive appropriate care and rehabilitation. Modern rehabilitation programmes include education, vocational training and treatment to help prisoners make a "fresh start".
