Glavni cilji diplomskega dela so bili ugotoviti, v kolikšni meri jahalni program pripomore k razvoju gibalnih sposobnosti predšolskih otrok in ugotoviti, v kolikšni meri otroci že poznajo konja in osnove jahanja.

Title:The development of motor skills through a riding programme for preschool children
Abstract:The bond between humans and animals is of great importance. Love for animals is already expressed in early childhood. In many cases, children grow up with animals. Animals are included in various programmes even in kindergartens and it is not uncommon for animals to visit children in groups or for these groups to visit the animals in their natural habitats. The purpose of our Bachelor's thesis is to determine whether the proposed riding programme is suitable for preschool children and how much it contributes to the development of a child's motor skills, which are in our case balance and coordination. The main goal of our thesis was to determine to what extent the riding programme contributes to the development of preschool children's motor skills and to ascertain how much children already know about horses and the basics of riding them. We also tested some exercises in the course of the research for our thesis, namely how to improve balance and coordination by doing exercises which contribute to the motor development of preschool children on horseback. We have also defined the process of learning how to ride for younger children and the individual stages which every rider or riding instructor must know. The exercises and stages are complementary to each other, so that the child can progress gradually without any exercise being too demanding or too easy, as this could lead to diminished results. By acquiring data while observing the children, we have concluded that children gradually progress and improve their motor skills with practice and persistence, but that they need more time for this, since they do not show much progress after merely one week. It should also be noted that the theory of approaching the horse and working with it differs from the one described, as it is also necessary to consider the child and their interest, approach and acceptance of the "big animal" standing in front of them. Many people greatly desire to one day have contact with a horse; however, when the time comes, they have concerns about what can happen and might not even dare stroke the horse. Despite this, if we use the right approach, we can encourage the person or child and help them overcome their fear. In order to teach younger children how to ride, we must certainly draw on the child's developmental stage and morphological characteristics. We must also consider motor skills the children have already acquired and at the same time incorporate into the process both the horse's and the child's way of learning, as they differ much in their perception of movement.
