Strokovno literaturo smo pregledali in pridobili iz mednarodnih podatkovnih baz, kot so: CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Medline, PubMed, Sage, ScienceDirect in Web of Science. Pregled literature smo predstavili s pomočjo PRISMA diagrama.

Title:The effect of probiotics on reducing the incidence of constipation in palliative care patients
Abstract:Introduction: Palliative care is key to improving the quality of life of terminally ill patients, where constipation is a common problem. Various measures, including the use of probiotics, are used to combat constipation in palliative care patients. These have a positive effect on digestive problems by improving stool consistency and stimulating the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut. The aim of this thesis was to investigate, based on a literature review, how the use of probiotics affects the reduction of constipation in palliative care patients. Methods: The thesis was based on a descriptive method. The literature was screened and retrieved from international databases such as CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Medline, PubMed, Sage, ScienceDirect and Web of Science. The literature review was presented using a PRISMA diagram. Results: Seven randomized placebo-controlled clinical trials were included in the diploma work. All of these studies showed that the use of probiotics reduced the incidence of constipation and improved gastrointestinal complications in palliative care patients. Discussion and conclusion: Probiotics could become a crucial and integral part of the care of palliative patients seeking the highest possible quality of life in their final moments. Their use could enable better management of constipation, helping to improve patient's well-being and comfort during this delicate time.
