Abstract:Področje raziskave diplomskega dela je primerjava vpliva gospodarske krize iz leta 2008 in Covid-19 krize na avtomobilsko industrijo na primeru treh večjih proizvajalcev avtomobilov, Toyote, Volkswagna in General Motorsa. Diplomska naloga je sestavljena iz dveh delov, teoretičnega dela z usmeritvijo v krize, s katerimi se soočajo podjetja, in drugega, raziskovalnega dela, kjer smo analizirali soočanje treh proizvajalecv s krizama. Kriza je širok pojem, ki lahko prizadene posameznika, organizacijo, državo itd. Lahko so predvidljive, kot je bila gospodarska kriza iz leta 2008, ali nepredvidljive, kot je bila Covid-19 kriza, ki je bila povezana s pandemijo koronavirusa. Avtomobilska industrija je bila prizadeta na večih področjih, tako v času gospodarske krize kot tudi v času Covid-19 krize. V diplomski nalogi nas je zanimalo, kako sta krizi vplivali na delovanje avtomobilskih proizvajalcev Toyote, Volkswagna in General Motorsa, ter kakšne so bile podobnosti in razlike v njihovem soočanju. Krizi, ki sta prizadeli avtomobilsko industrijo, sta si bili precej različni, spopadanje podjetij s krizama pa je bilo dokaj podobno. Veliko vlogo pri soočanju podjetij s krizama je imel krizni management, ki je omogočil, da so se podjetja prilagodila na krizne razmere, kot je bila preusmeritev proizvodnje, in ublažila posledice, ki sta jih prinesli krizi. Podjetja so se, tako ekonomski krizi, kot Covid-19 krizi, prilagodila tako, da so prilagodila svoje poslovne modele, ter tako ohranila konkurenčnost na trgu, kupce in ključne dobavitelje. Večinoma so prilagodila svoje delovanje tako, da so zmanjšala svoje proizvodne zmogljivosti ali pa, v času Covid-19 krize, tudi z zaprtjem določenih obratov.

Title:THE COMPARISON OF THE IMPACT OF THE ECONOMIC CRISIS IN 2008 AND COVID-19 CRISIS ON THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY – THE CASES OF TOYOTA, VOLKSWAGEN AND GENERAL MOTORS
Abstract:The research focus of the thesis is the comparison of the impact of the 2008 economic crisis and the COVID-19 crisis on the automotive industry, using the case of three major car manufacturers: Toyota, Volkswagen, and General Motors. The thesis is divided into two parts: the theoretical section, which explores crises faced by companies, and the research section, where we analyze how the three manufacturers dealt with the crises. Crisis is a broad concept that can affect individuals, organizations, countries, etc. Crises can be predictable, such as the 2008 economic crisis, or unpredictable, like the COVID-19 crisis associated with the coronavirus pandemic. The automotive industry was affected in various aspects during both the economic and COVID-19 crises. The thesis aimed to investigate how these crises influenced the operations of Toyota, Volkswagen, and General Motors, and to identify similarities and differences in their responses. While the two crises impacting the automotive industry were quite different, the companies' approaches to dealing with them were fairly similar. Crisis management played a significant role in helping companies adapt to the crisis situations, such as redirecting production and mitigating the consequences brought by the crises. Companies have adapted to both the economic crisis and the Covid-19 crisis by adjusting their business models, thereby maintaining competitiveness in the market, retaining customers, and key suppliers. In most cases, they have adjusted their operations by reducing production capacity or, during the Covid-19 crisis, even by closing certain facilities.
