Abstract:Povzetek Uvod: V Sloveniji in svetu je arterijska hipertenzija eden glavnih razlogov obolevnosti in umrljivosti. Izvedli smo pregled tuje in domače znanstvene literature s področja zdrave prehrane in arterijske hipertenzije. Pri iskanju literature smo si pomagali s podatkovnimi bazami PubMed, Medline in Web of science.

Title:Awareness of the lay public about the importance of the management of arterial hypertension
Abstract:Abstract Introduction: In Slovenia and worldwide, arterial hypertension is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. A healthy diet and lifestyle are the primary measures in managing arterial hypertension. This thesis aimed to present general arterial hypertension and the public's awareness of the importance of an unhealthy diet in managing arterial hypertension. Methods: The research is based on a quantitative methodology. A questionnaire was used, which was completed by 105 respondents over the age of 18. Foreign and domestic scientific literature on healthy eating and arterial hypertension was reviewed. PubMed, Medline, and Web of Science databases searched the literature. A descriptive method was used. Results: We found that the general public is well-informed about preventive measures to manage and treat high blood pressure with non-pharmacological measures. They know the different options to guide a healthy lifestyle, but the results show that these measures should be more used. Discussion and conclusion: The results suggest that people should be further encouraged and supervised to take action and to use non-pharmacological measures before being put on therapy. The issue requires more action in treating arterial hypertension and raising awareness for a healthy lifestyle, which in turn could reduce the use of medicines.
