Abstract:V diplomski nalogi smo s suspenzijsko radikalsko polimerizacijo pripravili porozna polimerna zrna na osnovi kopolimerizacije metakrilatov različnih polarnosti. S spreminjanjem koncentracij monomerov butil metakrilata, lavril metakrilata, etilheksil metakrilata in zamreževala etilenglikol dimetakrilata, smo vplivali na hidrofilnost nastalih zrn. Za iniciacijo proste radikalske polimerizacije smo uporabili termični iniciator azobisizobutironitril. Na stabilnost suspenzije smo vplivali s stabilizatorji polivinil pirolidon K-90, polivinil pirolidon K-30 in polivinil alkohol. Dobljena zrna smo okarakterizirali z optičnim mikroskopom in jim določili velikost.

Title:Porous polymethacrylates with variable hydrophilicity
Abstract:In this thesis, porous polymer beads were prepared by radical polymerisation in suspension based on copolymerisation of methacrylates of different polarity. By changing the concentrations of monomers butyl methacrylate, lauryl methacrylate, ethylhexyl methacrylate and crosslinker ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate, we influenced the hydrophilicity of synthesized beads. The thermal initiator azobisisobutyronitrile was used for the initiation of free radical polymerisation. For suspension stability, we used stabilisers polyvinyl pyrrolidone K-90, polyvinyl pyrrolidone K-30 and polyvinyl alcohol. We characterised produced beads with an optical microscope and determined their size. Results showed that type and mass concentration of the stabiliser relative to the mass of the aqueous phase, mass concentration of the initiator relative to the mass of the monomers and time of the polymerisation are crucial for bead formation. Monoliths of the same concentrations as formed beads were synthesized for determination of hydrophilicity by measuring the contact angle between the monolith surface and a water droplet. We confirmed chemical composition of the materials with FT-IR spectroscopy and determined the polymerisation yield by gravimetry.
