Title:Analysis of outdoor play and outdoor learning with elements of risky play
Abstract:In this thesis, we will present the importance of spending time outdoors with a special focus on risky play, which enables children to acquire key skills and experiences. In the theoretical part, based on studies by various authors, we will explore outdoor play and outdoor learning in natural environments and on playgrounds, the role of educators, play in different seasons and weather conditions, as well as the obstacles encountered outdoors and how this type of play affects motor development. We will also concentrate on risky play, its significance, categories, the role of educators, safety, and the causes of potential injuries. In the empirical part, we will present data obtained through a questionnaire and compare the information with a previous study by Kos and Jerman (2013). In addition to data comparison, we will use the questionnaire to evaluate the opinions of Slovenian educators on risky play. A total of 139 educators and assistant educators from across Slovenia participated in the questionnaire. Based on it, we can conclude that respondents recognize the value of spending time in nature, which indicates an awareness of the importance of natural experiences for children. Furthermore, among them there is a general understanding of the significance and benefits of risky play for children's development, as well as the need to create a safe environment for such play.
