V tem magistrskem delu smo raziskali povezanost psihološke rezilientnosti s socialno oporo (emocionalna, instrumentalna opora, potreba po opori in iskanje opore), z mestom nadzora (notranje mesto nadzora in dve dimenziji zunanjega mesta nadzora »vplivni drugi« in »zunanja slučajnost«) in s preteklimi stresnimi izkušnjami. Preverjali smo napovedno moč vseh spremenljivk za psihološko rezilientnost ter morebitno moderatorsko vlogo štirih oblik socialne opore, notranjega mesta nadzora in dveh dimenzij zunanjega mesta nadzora na odnos med preteklimi stresnimi izkušnjami in psihološko rezilientnostjo.

Title:Psychological resilience: the role of past stressful experiences, social support and locus of control
Abstract:Psychological resilience is a key feature that enables individuals to successfully adapt to and overcome life's challenges and stressful situations. The ability to develop and strengthen psychological resilience enables individuals to cope effectively with everyday problems. All from minor stressors to serious life challenges which can have a positive impact on their overall satisfaction and quality of life. In this master thesis, we researched the association of psychological resilience with social support (emotional support, instrumental support, need for support and support-seeking), with locus of control (internal locus of control and two dimensions of external locus of control - “powerful others” and “chance”) and with the past stressful experiences. We tested the predictive power of all variables for psychological resilience and the possible moderating role of the four types of social support, the internal locus of control and the two dimensions of the external locus of control on the relationship between the past stressful experiences and psychological resilience. We surveyed 368 Slovenian students of whom 66.6% were women. The majority of students came from the University of Ljubljana (48.4%) and the University of Maribor (38%). In the quantitative study, we used the following questionnaires: the CD-RISC 10, the BSSS, the Levenson Locus of Control Scale and a modified and updated version of the Holmes-Rahe questionnaire to measure the past stressful experiences. The results showed that psychological resilience is positively correlated with emotional support and internal locus of control, while it is positively predicted only by internal locus of control. Psychological resilience is negatively correlated with the need for support with both dimensions of the external locus of control (“powerful others” and “chance”) and with the past stressful experiences. Furthermore, the need for support, the “powerful others” dimension and the past stressful experiences negatively predict students' resilience. The moderation analysis showed that of all the variables, only the external locus of control dimension “powerful others” is a significant moderator of the negative linear relationship between the past stressful experiences and the psychological resilience. The results obtained are partly in line with previous research. Possible explanations for this, as well as limitations, applied value and ideas for future research are presented in the discussion.
