Title:Traffic calming measures at the beginning of the settlements
Abstract:The master’s thesis discusses the issue of the transition zone at the entrance to the settlement, where the road outside the settlement passes into the built environment along the road or into the area defined by the settlement borders. The main purpose of arranging the entrance to the settlement is to warn the driver about the change in the environment and to encourage him to adjust his speed accordingly, since entering the settlement usually changes the traffic conditions (e.g. a greater number of non-motorized participants in traffic). The Master’s thesis provides a review of the current legislation in Slovenia and abroad regarding traffic calming. In continuation, the Master's thesis examines and analyses the existing project documentation and the measures already implemented at settlement entrances. Based on the findings, typical solutions for the regulation of settlement entrances that can be applied in the given situations are proposed. The proposed solutions are designed to reduce the risk of traffic accidents and to increase the safety of all participants in traffic. The guidelines set out in the road safety legislation are taken into account in order to ensure that the arrangements contribute as effectively as possible to the safe and smooth passage of vehicles into the settlement.
