Abstract:Uvod: Spiritualnost in z njo povezana spiritualna oskrba dobiva na področju zdravstva vedno večji pomen. Metode: Pregledali, analizirali in sintetizirali smo znanstveno literaturo s področja pomena spiritualnosti ob koncu življenja pacienta. Razprava in zaključek: V zadnji fazi življenja spiritualna prepričanja in prakse pogosto dobijo velik pomen, saj osebi v tem zahtevnem in negotovem obdobju zagotavljajo upanje, tolažbo in iskanje smisla. Podpora medicinskih sester mora biti temelj spiritualne oskrbe ob koncu življenja. Potrebne so smernice za izvajalce spiritualne oskrbe ob koncu življenja.

Title:The importance of spirituality at the end of a patient`s life
Abstract:Introduction: Spirituality and related spiritual care are gaining increasing importance in the field of healthcare. Understanding spirituality is important for nurses because it empowers them and gives them the necessary knowledge to be compassionate with patients and to provide competent spiritual care. The aim of this thesis is to explore and present the importance of spirituality at the end of life. Methods: We reviewed, analysed and synthesised the scientific literature on the meaning of spirituality at the end of life. PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Library and Sage databases were searched for scientific literature. A descriptive method was used. Results: 902 studies were identified and seven studies were included in the final review. The results showed that healthcare professionals and patients are aware of the importance of spiritual care at the end of life. However, healthcare professionals are still hampered by ignorance, lack of discussion with patients to assess individual spiritual needs and lack of time for effective end-of-life care. Discussion and conclusion: Spiritual beliefs and practices often take on great importance in the last phase of life, providing hope, comfort and a search for meaning during this challenging and uncertain period. Nurses' support should be the cornerstone of spiritual care at the end of life. Guidelines for practitioners of spiritual care at the end of life are needed.
