Title:Teaching vocal technique on the example of an adult vocal group
Abstract:Singing is a widespread activity in our area, where adult amateur choirs and vocal groups strongly dominate in terms of numbers. Although we can find many books describing different vocalises and exercises, we notice the lack of exercises that enable singers to experience particular areas. In the thesis, we present the theoretical framework of singing, the physiology of the singing organ, and a historical overview of singing lessons, followed by the presentation of vocal exercises for the individual areas. In the second part of the thesis, we use a semi-structured interview to compare the past experiences of singers of an amateur vocal group with the post-implementation period of designed exercises in the field of the basic vocal technique for singers in amateur choirs. The results of qualitative research have shown that singers notice improvement both in their sound and the sound of the group. Furthermore, they notice increased stamina, range of their singing voice, and the feeling of lightness while singing. The exercises where singers could check in with their accuracy of breath and singing themselves have proved to be the most effective. The singers also pointed out the method of explanation as a good practice, which includes both a graphic presentation of the subject matter and a practical approach.
