Title:The usage of complementary methods to reduce pain after breast cancer surgery
Abstract:Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide. Most of these patients suffer from pain both during and after active treatment. Due to the high demand for analgesics or pharmacological treatments, many women seek other types of pain treatment in so-called complementary methods. The aim of this thesis was to investigate which complementary interventions are used by patients and which of these are effective in reducing pain. Methods: In the final part, we used the descriptive method of work. The scientific literature was searched in PubMed, CINAHL, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The process of the review was presented using the PRISMA diagram and the strength of evidence of the collected studies was assessed using the hierarchy of evidence. Results: We identified 128 results in our search set in the databases of which 7 studies could be used in the end after removing all irrelevant sources. Our main category was the use of complementary methods to reduce pain after breast cancer surgery and we created subcategories of breast cancer in women, the presence of pain after breast cancer surgery, and complementary methods to relieve pain. Discussion and conclusion: Research has shown that many women with breast cancer and after breast cancer surgery use complementary methods to complement traditional treatments. Many women reported that they experienced increased motivation to undergo treatment and that pain was satisfactorily reduced.
