Title:Socialna primerjava partnerskega odnosa na Instagramu v povezavi z zadovoljstvom v odnosu in predanostjo : magistrsko delo

Abstract:Instagram predstavlja enega izmed najbolj priljubljenih spletnih socialnih omrežij, ki temeljijo na slikovnem gradivu. Študije na tem področju so se najprej pričele ukvarjati z raziskovanjem uporabe Instagrama in njegovih učinkov na posameznikovo blagostanje, šele v zadnjih nekaj letih pa so avtorji pričeli raziskovati učinke Instagrama tudi v povezavi s partnerskimi odnosi. Ker je kreiranje vsebin za spletna socialna omrežja v veliki meri motivirano s strani upravljanja z vtisti in so vsebine urejene na način, da ne prikazujejo nujno resničnosti, pač pa ideale, predstavljajo take vsebine priložnost za primerjanje sebe in svojega partnerskega odnosa. V raziskavi smo se zato osredotočili predvsem na socialno primerjavo partnerskega odnosa na Instagramu, določene vidike same uporabe Instagrama (količina in pasivni način uporabe) ter kakovost partnerskega odnosa, ki smo jo proučevali preko zadovoljstva in predanosti v odnosu. V raziskavi je sodelovalo 137 udeležencev (86,2 % žensk), starih med 19 in 51 let. Odgovarjali so na vprašanja o socialni primerjavi partnerskega odnosa na Instagramu, količini uporabe Instagrama, pasivni in aktivni uporabi Instagrama, zadovoljstvu ter predanosti v svojem partnerskem odnosu. Ključna ugotovitev naše raziskave je, da pasivna uporaba Instagrama napoveduje kakovost partnerskega odnosa posredno preko socialne primerjave partnerskega odnosa na Instagramu, kar nam omogoča bolj poglobljeno razumevanje odnosa med uporabo Instagrama in kakovostjo odnosa. Dodatno smo potrdili v literaturi že dobro poznano statistično pomembno pozitivno povezavo med zadovoljstvom v partnerskem odnosu in predanostjo. Presenetljivo se količina uporabe Instagrama ni pomembno povezovala s kakovostjo odnosa, prav tako odnos ni bil moderiran s strani pasivnega načina uporabe Instagrama niti s strani socialne primerjave partnerskega odnosa na Instagramu, se je pa v dotični analizi socialna primerjava odnosa pokazala kot pomemben samostojni napovednik kakovosti partnerskega odnosa. S socialno primerjavo odnosa na Instagramu se pomembno pozitivno povezuje tudi pasivni način uporabe Instagrama. Izsledki naše raziskave potrjujejo pomembno vlogo socialne primerjave partnerskega odnosa na Instagramu in predstavljajo izhodišče za nadaljnje raziskovanje.

Title:Social comparison of romantic relationship on Instagram in relation to relationship satisfaction and commitment
Abstract:Instagram is one of the most popular image-based social networking sites. Initially, studies in this field explored the use of Instagram and its effects on an individual’s well-being, but in the last few years various authors have begun to research the effects of Instagram in connection with romantic relationships. Since the creation of contents for social networking sites is largely motivated by impression management and the contents are edited in a way that does not necessarily reflect the actual reality but rather an idealised one, such contents present an opportunity to compare oneself and one’s romantic relationship with those of others. In this survey, we primarily focused on the social comparison of a romantic relationship on Instagram, on certain aspects of Instagram use (frequency of use and passive use), as well as on the quality of the romantic relationship examined in terms of relationship satisfaction and commitment. The survey included 137 participants (of which 86.2% were women) aged between 19 and 51 years. The participants answered questions on the social comparison of their romantic relationship on Instagram, the frequency of their Instagram use (passive and active use), plus on satisfaction and commitment in their romantic relationship. The key finding of our survey is that passive Instagram use indirectly predicts the quality of a romantic relationship through social comparison of romantic relationships on Instagram, which allows us to understand the relationship between Instagram use and romantic relationship quality in more depth. Additionally, we confirmed a statistically significant positive correlation between romantic relationship satisfaction and commitment, which has been well established in literature. Surprisingly, the frequency of Instagram use is not significantly correlated to the quality of a romantic relationship. In addition, this relationship is not moderated by passive Instagram use, nor by social comparison of romantic relationships on Instagram. However, the social comparison of a romantic relationship appears to be a significant independent predictor of romantic relationship quality. Passive use of Instagram is significantly positively correlated with social comparison of romantic relationships on Instagram. The results of our survey thus confirm the important role of social comparison of romantic relationships on Instagram and provide a starting point for further research.
