Abstract:V magistrskem delu smo preučevali socialne interakcije pujskov v dveh različnih načinih reje v času laktacije: v individualni reji (klasični porodni boksi) in v skupinski reji, kjer imajo pujski treh boksov možnost prehajanja že v času laktacije.

Title:Social interactions of piglets during lactation and the influence of rearing technology
Abstract:For the master's thesis, we studied social interactions of piglets during lactation in two different rearing systems: in individual housing (the classic farrowing pen) and in group housing, where piglets from three pens can move around during lactation. In total, 67 piglets were included in the study. The piglets were observed on the 1st, 7th, 14th, 21th and 28th day of lactation. The piglets were weighed and tagged on each observation day. Six different types of interactions were recorded: teat fighting, fighting, pushing away, mounting, ear biting and tail biting. The results show that social interactions during lactation are more frequent in group housing compared to individual farrowing pens. With group rearing, teat fighting was more frequent in repeated combinations of piglets. Conversely, fighting was more frequent in single combinations in group rearing than in individual farrowing pens. In group farrowing pens, more than half of all interactions occurred between piglets from different litters. Teat fighting was more frequent within the same litter (> 80%), but fighting occurred equally frequently between litters and within the same litter (50% - 50%). Most interactions occurred in the farrowing pen of the interaction initiator. Piglets from individual farrowing pens had fewer social interactions, but growth performance of the piglets was the same with both rearing methods. We can conclude that early socialisation of piglets encourages the establishment of social order between multiple litters and thus contributes to more intense interactions, including fighting, already during lactation which otherwise occur in classical (individual) breeding technology after weaning in a much more aggressive form. Spontaneous early socialization is one of the possible ways to mitigate abnormal weaning aggression, which breaks out when individuals from different litters are suddenly mixed.
