Title:Conversion plan from conventional to organic farming for the Lapoši farm - a case study
Abstract:There is a growing demand for organic products in the world. In Slovenia, there is a growing awareness of organic farming, so in order to assess the economics of a farming enterprise, we decided to develop a conversion plan for our own Lapoši farm. The farm sustains itself via crop production and the breeding and fattening of porkers. The farm production plan is presented in conventional production, conversion period and in organic production. The farm is 3.92 ha in size and is located in the north-eastern part of Slovenia. During the conversion period, we decided to purchase an additional 1.50 ha of land to ensure sufficient feed for the pigs. We have developed a technological simulation mode of total costs with calculations. By calculating the total costs, we came to the conclusion that organic production is most economically viable. The financial result in conventional production was – 1.314,58 €, and after the transition to organic production in increased to 4.385,50 €.
