Title:Cultural Heritage Digitisation Through European Funding
Abstract:This Master's thesis is a short overview of the history of cultural heritage, from the first conservation initiatives, the establishment of museums, to the various policies proposed at European Union level in regards to co-financing possibilities for conservation and protection of cultural heritage established by the EU for and in cooperation with Member States. Cultural heritage faces threats such as climate change, wars and, last but not least, mass tourism, resulting in a desire to redefine cultural heritage policies in order to preserve, disseminate and bring them closer to the people so that everyone can feel responsibility for common history. Based on this, as well as the increasingly rapid entry of the world into the digital age, policies have begun to develop about the digitization of cultural heritage and the establishment of common data spaces where digitized heritage will be available for learning, research and education for all. With the introduction of digital, a completely new relationship began to develop between cultural heritage institutions and their visitors. The European Union has recognized cultural heritage as an important part of its common history and as an important sector of integration, which means that it has helped it to revive and revitalize itself over the last fifteen years through targeted funding. The Master's thesis explores good examples of projects and implementations of various new technologies, while also providing certain guidelines for co-financing similar projects in the new financial period 2021-2027. In its final chapter, the thesis draws parallels between co-financing programmes and newly established policies that could help new applicants.
