Abstract:Magistrska naloga se ukvarja s prihodom Rdeče armade v Prekmurje in osvoboditvijo pokrajine leta 1945.

Title:Red army and the liberation of prekmurje 1945: collective memory of the local population
Abstract:The Master’s thesis deals with the arrival of the Red Army to the Prekmurje, and the consequent liberation of the region in 1945. It is methodologically based on the analysis of oral testimonies of individuals who keep alive the collective memory of the arrival of the Red Army, either by direct experience of this significant event or by the recollection of testimonies of close family members. The testimonies are comparatively analyzed in relation with the data found in various archival, newspaper and other sources, with the addition of the relevant literature. Furthermore, the testimonies offer a unique insight into the local population’s perspective of the events of the time. Collective memory plays a key part in the recollection of past events. Due to this, the introductory part of the thesis is aimed towards illustrating and clarifying this concept, as it is vital for the understanding of the function of individual memory in relation to the collective memory. The thesis is split into two parts: the first establishes the narration of events between the arrival and liberation, with emphasis on the Red Army’s military movements and operations, further clarified with the aid of military maps; the second part is based on the testimonies, encompassing the events from the Red Army’s arrival up to the consolidation of the new Yugoslav authorities after the war.
Keywords:Prekmurje, liberation in 1945, Red Army, Second world war, testimonies, collective memory.
