Abstract:Uvod: Srčno popuščanje pogosto prizadene starejšo populacijo.

Title:The quality of life for the elderly with heart failure
Abstract:Introduction: Heart failure often affects the elderly population, and given the increasing life expectancy, along with improved management of chronic health conditions, the number of patients with heart failure is expected to increase. Quality of life in elderly people with heart failure is compromised and associated with higher mortality and rehospitalization. The purpose of the final work is to determine how heart failure affects the quality of life in the elderly. Methods: In the empirical part of the final work, we used a quantitative research methodology. The research was conducted with the help of a questionnaire, which was distributed in one of the hospital in the Podravina region among 50 elderly people with heart failure. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data and the results were presented with pie and bar graphs. Results: We found that elderly people with heart failure are often hospitalized, which is pointed out by 86% of respondents. Their quality of life is also low, with as many as 72% taking a long time to wash and dress, 68% citing restrictions on tidying up and vacuuming, 64% often feeling tired and having to rest a lot, 60% of respondents being tired every activity or task they do, 52% find it harder to do work in the garden, 32% of respondents already have difficulty walking on a flat surface, 30% lack breath. Discussion and conclusion: Heart failure is increasing from year to year in Slovenia as well as elsewhere in the world. Elderly people with heart failure are characterized by impaired quality of life, both physical and emotional. Taking medication improves the quality of life of patients by helping them to relieve pain and reduce swelling.
