Title:Circular economy in the case of the textile industry
Abstract:Circular economy is a new form of art that transforms the environment to make it pleasurable to live in. Linear economy has brought about various harmful factors, while the circular model provides a new perspective on the life of an individual and of the entire population. The current situation is alarming, as the amount of waste is far beyond normal. Individuals are dealing with the phenomenon of fast fashion; it is manifested in practice in empty shelves and tons of discarded clothes that are still wearable. The mindset established among people is founded on old, impracticable waste management methods, even though new models would be more effective. The content of the thesis is divided into a theoretical section, which provides a definition of circular economy, consumerism and the textile industry, and into an empirical section, which enquires into consumers' opinions on the researched topic by means of a survey. The survey was conducted among consumers with the aim of highlighting the global issue of the linear model. The research has shown that only 24% of all respondents are familiar with the essence of circular economy. Their main reason for buying textile products is fast fashion, which generates up to 12 kilograms of waste per person annually. The respondents stated that men were sustainable consumers, while the most rational consumers were said to be people aged 56 and over. The respondents are aware that the best way to prevent waste is to buy products rationally. The most common reason for throwing away clothes is because they are no longer fashionable or because there is simply no more room in the wardrobe for new clothes. The average amount of clothes discarded by the respondents annually is lower than the average amount of clothes discarded by Europeans and amounts to 8.7 kilograms. We believe that textile waste could be reduced by educating people on how the textile industry affects the environment and people. The environment is our greatest asset and must be preserved; that is why the conclusion presents an idea for an application that would help to reduce textile waste.
