Title:The impact of globalisation on the growth of counterfeits in world trade
Abstract:In this master's thesis, we study the characteristics and peculiarities of counterfeit products in international trade that severely harm innovative manufacturers and members of the distribution chain, as well as countries, and can affect the health and satisfaction of consumers. In this paper, we examine the trend in the volume of counterfeits in international trade to determine whether their volume is increasing or declining, given that there exist activities in individual countries or regions, aimed at preventing counterfeit trade and raise consumer awareness of this global problem, which we can witness in modern times. In addition to being a topical issue, we can also conclude that counterfeit trade is difficult to measure and prove for various reasons but is still a component part of global trade. The conclusion of our research is that, despite macroeconomic and other consumer safety measures regarding this field, counterfeit trade is constantly increasing, which, among other things, is a direct result of the progress in information and communication technology and logistics. Thus, we often find protective measures and consumer awareness activities to be lacking in efficiency, are outdated, too general or unsupported by members of the distribution chain. We note that the discussed topic is multifaceted, and thus requires the cooperation of several socio-economic spheres for the realization of positive effects on the global economy.
