Title:Quality of life of young adults after treatment of Hodgkin´s lymphoma
Abstract:Introduction: Lymphomas account respectively for 22 % of all malignancies in patients, aged 15–24 years, whereby Hodgkins’ lymphoma represents as much as 16 %. The purpose of the treatment is to eliminate Hodgkin’s lymphoma, however, aggressive chemotherapy and radiotherapy consequently result in deterioration in the quality of life in young people. The purpose was to determine the quality of life of young adults after treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma. Methods: In order to conduct the following research, a qualitative method of investigation was employed - more specifically, an interview which addressed nine unstructured-type questions. Interview was carried out with three individuals who overcame Hodgkin’s lymphoma and the results were processed with the Content analysis. Results: Findings of interview questionnaire design propose that the life of young people after the treatment is so inadequate that it would be imperative to monitor the quality of life more often. As well, it would be essential to address the consequences of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment - the most prevailing consequences for young people after being treated for Hodgkin's lymphoma are fatigue, pain, poor physical condition, and mental problems such as stress, anxiety, and fear. Discussion and conclusion: Young people require support and help from their close ones and health professionals – especially when comes to improving the quality of life and overcoming obstacles which occur after the treatment. Results also indicate that post-treatment controls should encompass to observe the quality of life of young people with greater insight. This is due to the fact that their life has changed significantly in emotional, social and cognitive functioning.
