Abstract:Pretrgana oz. poškodovana križna vez velja v profesionalnem nogometu za eno izmed težjih poškodb v kolenskem sklepu.

Title:A return of a footballer to sport after the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament
Abstract:Broken or injured cruciate ligament is considered one of the most serious injuries of the knee joint in the professional football. It is increasing among the population, due to more intensive participation in sports. Rupture of the cruciate ligament causes knee instability and repetitive non-physiological movements, which can result in damage to other structures in the joint. Surgical reconstruction is one of the most efficient ways to achieve adequate knee stability. Successful surgery, however, is not enough to return a footballer to the same competitive level as prior to the injury. Athlete must be appropriately rehabilitated as sports differ from each other. When it comes to a football player, greater forces are transmitted across the knee joints (with changes in movement and various jumps-landings). A treatment plan, with approximate time frames, based on the diagnosis of an injured knee, should be made. Several researches have shown that rehabilitation must be divided into different phases, with specific goals and methods. The additional problem arises with more distinct atrophy of the anterior thigh muscles and consequently loss of proprioception in the knee. Immediate treatment and rehabilitation training program are crucial. Both can significantly contribute to effectiveness; they shorten overall rehabilitation and restore body functionality. It is a long-lasting and gradual procedure, which must not be forced, as the ligament is still sensitive for another six months, due to surgery.
