Abstract:Uvod: Noben starš ni pripravljen na predčasen porod, zato jih lahko to pripelje do različnih življenjskih stisk. Predčasen porod in sama oskrba nedonošenčka močno vplivata na starše, na njihove občutke in obnašanje, zato je pomembno, da nedonošenčka in starše vedno obravnavamo skupaj in holistično. Metode: Izvedli smo pregled literature v podatkovnih bazah MEDLINE in CINAHL s kvalitativno vsebinsko analizo in sintezo. Uporabili smo opisno metodo dela.

Title:Confronting parents with the care of a premature baby in an intensive care unit
Abstract:Introduction: Parents are mostly not prepared to premature birth leading to various distress situations. Premature birth and care have a strong impact on parents, their feelings and behaviour. It is therefore important that we treat the premature baby and the parents together and holistically. Methods: We performed a literature review in the MEDLINE and CINAHL databases with qualitative content analysis and synthesis. We used a descriptive method of work. The literature was imported into the Mendeley program, reviewed, analysed, synthesized and presented in tables. Results: When caring for a premature baby, parents face different negative feelings, depending on the condition of their baby. The most common feelings are stress, anxiety, depression, uncontrolled emotions, feelings of helplessness, passivity and exclusion from care, which can later result in post-traumatic stress disorder. Medical staff must be able to assess the condition of parents and their needs, be supportive and available for their questions. Discussion and Conclusion: We found out that in patient care itself, the medical staff and the nursing team play a big role. It is of utmost importance to implement good communication and partner relationship, leading to indebtedness and well-being of both, the parents and the premature baby. Parents have to be included in the care as soon as possible and there has to be an implementation of various interventions to maintain the bond between the premature infant and the parents, as well as implementation of measures that will reduce the negative feelings and their consequences. Medical staff has to be well educated, master various communication and observation techniques and include other necessary professionals and professions in care.
