Title:Analysis of Potential Suppression of Ambrosia artemisiifolia in Pumpkin Crops (Cucurbita pepo L.)
Abstract:In the 2018 season, a field experiment was conducted to analyse the possibility of controlling common ragweed in the oil pumpkin crop (varieties 'GL Sonne' and 'GL Rustikal') with the active substance halosulfuron-methyl and to analyse the effect of the herbicide on the growth and development of oil pumpkins and pumpkin seed yield. We also examined the effect of the added plant strengthening agent, whose active substance is 24R-Epibrassinolide, on reducing herbicide damage on oil pumpkins. The active substance halosulfuron-methyl significantly reduced the number of common ragweed in all applied doses compared to the control group. The active substance caused initial phytotoxicity on oil pumpkins, which was completely rehabilitated during the growing season and due to phytotoxicity there was no reduction in yield. We found that plant strengthening agent significantly reduces herbicide-induced damage to oil pumpkins; however, the effect was observed in treatments with higher herbicide doses. Also, the studied active substance does not significantly affect the yield of fresh and dried pumpkin seeds, as no treatment is statistically significantly different from weed free controls where no herbicide was used.
