Title:The Importance of Nonverbal Communication in Interpersonal Communication in Times of Limited Movement due to Epidemics
Abstract:In this diploma thesis, we examined nonverbal communication in computer-mediated communication in interpersonal relationships at a time when movement is limited. We made a detailed review and explanation of basic concepts such as nonverbal, interpersonal and computer-mediated communication. In the second part, we used a questionnaire to investigate whether there is a difference in attributing importance to nonverbal communication before and after limited movement due to COVID-19 and the frequency of use of individual communication media and nonverbal means before and during the epidemic. We found that users became more aware of the importance of nonverbal communication during times of limited movement and at the same time began to make more use of video chat and instant messaging, while communication via email remained almost unchanged. However, the frequency of use of the most widespread nonverbal substitutes in computer-mediated communication has not changed.
Keywords:nonverbal communication, interpersonal communication, computer-mediated communication, restriction of movement
