Keywords:demografske spremembe, visok javni dolg, dolgoročna vzdržnost japonskega dolga.

Title:The indebtedness of the japanese economy
Abstract:The Japanese economy is part of the world powers, but the land of the rising sun is facing uncertain times due to their debts. The Japanese public debt is twice as high as their gross domestic product on a yearly basis. The main problem are the public-financial expenses for social security. Due to the fact that Japan has the highest percentage of older population, their state budget is increasingly burdened each year. Japan is also facing a slow growth of gross domestic product and deflation tendencies. The central bank is planning to solve the deflation with the policy of quantitative easing. Due to the increase of public-financial expenses connected with the aging of the population and a low growth rate of the gross domestic product we have determined that based on the current fiscal policy the sustainability of public debt in Japan remains a key factor. The prerequisite for a long-term sustainability of public debt and a lower ratio between public debt and gross domestic product is a higher economic activity and even more drastic structural reforms accompanied by measures of fiscal consolidation.
Keywords:demographic changes, a high public debt, long-term sustainability of the Japanese debt.
