Title:Analysis of nutritional strategy for weight loss of judokas in the 16-20 year category
Abstract:Judo is a traditional Japanese martial art form which has been classified under the Olympic Sports category since 1964. The participants compete in categories which are defined by body mass weight. The purpose of the dissertation is to introduce the eating habits and customs of the judo practitioners between the ages of 16-20 with an emphasis on reducing body mass (commonly referred to as weight cutting) before competitions. The category 16-20 years in judo presents the period when the sportsmen begin with intense training. Because many young sportsmen are aware of the importance of healthy eating in professional training, we aim to research what is the role of food in this period and what are the nutritional needs of the young sportsmen and compare them to nutritional strategies we see in practice. The emphasis will be on the analysis of the strategies that the judo sportsmen use in the process of reducing their body mass before competition and their knowledge of the correct sports nutrition. The regulation of body mass in growing sportsmen who are entering the period of intense workouts is physiologically a very complex process. Insufficient food support, especially the development of the components of relative energy deficiency syndrome (RED syndrome) can negatively affect the psycho-physical wellbeing of the sportsman, as well as his growth and development in the growing phase of his/her life.
Keywords:Judo, weight reduction / weight cutting, sports of power and speed, food recommendations, RED syndrom
