Abstract:Digitalizacija, ki sodi med aktualne trende in povzroča čedalje obsežnejše zbiranje podatkov, organizacijam omogoča učinkovitejše upravljanje in poslovanje. Respondenti so sicer najmanj pripravljeni deliti osebne podatke z nadzorstvenimi organizacijami. Ugotovitve raziskave pomembno prispevajo k razumevanju okoliščin, povezanih s pripravljenostjo ljudi za deljenje osebnih podatkov, uporabne pa so za organizacije pri spodbujanju sodelovanja ljudi pri zbiranju osebnih podatkov in krepitvi zaupanja javnosti v njihovo delo.

Title:Perceptions of sharing personal data with public and private organisations
Abstract:As a current trend, digitalisation causes mass data collection and enables better management and performance of organisations. However, there are also some challenges related to digitalisation, like ensuring adequate data security and management. Additionally, ensuring positive public perceptions of sharing personal data is also important, because it allows easier data collection for organisations. Studies show that willingness to share personal data is influenced by different factors, such as perceived risks and data sensitivity, trust in organisations and the purpose of data collection. Still, there is a noticeable lack of research, which would focus on the differences in perceptions of personal data collection by public and private organisations. Investigating such differences is important due to different characteristics of organisations and different purposes of data collection. To discover potential differences in the public perceptions of sharing personal data with public and private organisations, quantitative research among Slovenian web users was carried out. The aim was to investigate whether there are any differences in the willingness to share personal data based on types of organisations, the purpose of data collection, and trust in organisations. The results showed that among the respondents, there are no statistically significant differences in the willingness to share personal data with public and private organisations. It was found that the willingness to share personal data is related to gaining personal benefits and that trust in public organisations is related to the willingness to share personal data with them. The respondents were the least willing to share their personal data with organisations, which collect data for surveillance purposes. The research represents an important contribution to understanding people’s willingness to share personal data. The results are beneficial for organisations, which collect personal data, when it comes to encouraging better cooperation of people in regard to sharing their personal data and strengthening their trust in organisations.
