V poskusu smo uporabili suha semena sedmih različnih taksonov pšenic in sicer divjo pšenico (Triticum dicoccoides Koern. ex Asch. & Graebn.), pšenico dvozrnico ali emer (Triticum dicoccum Schrank ex Schübl.), pšenico enozrnico (Triticum monococcum L.), pritlikavo pšenico (Triticum compactum Host), starinski genotip pšenice pire (Triticum spelta L.), kamut ali korasansko pšenico (Triticum turanicum Jakubz.) in kultivar moderne pšenice (Triticum aestivum L.).

Title:Seed material determination and preparation of a dichotomous identification key for the selected taxa of the genus Triticum L.
Abstract:In the research conducted at the Botanical Garden of the University of Maribor, we studied whether we can clearly distinguish between certain taxa of observed wheat by using measured data, and whether these measured parameters are statistically significant enough for use in the creation of a dichotomous key for the determination of wheat. In the experiment, we used the dried seeds of seven different wheat taxa, namely wild wheat (Triticum dicoccoides Koern. ex Asch. & Graebn.), emmer wheat (Triticum dicoccum Schrank ex Schübl.), single grain wheat (Triticum monococcum L.), dwarf or compact wheat (Triticum compactum Host), primitive spelt variety (Triticum spelta L.), khorasan or oriental wheat (Triticum turanicum Jakubz.) and a common wheat cultivar (Triticum aestivum L.). The length, width and weight of the seeds of the observed taxa were measured and compared. We found that the measured morphological parameters are enough to produce a dichotomous key. With the method of principal component analysis, we can clearly distinguishbetween different wheat taxons. The dichotomous determination key is simpler for layman's use than dichotomous keys from strictly botanical publications, because of the inclusion of simple numerical data.
