Title:The meaning of encouraging independance in a preschool child by an adult
Abstract:Independence of a child is an activity in which we have to be patient and persistent. The child has to feel safe which is also the basic need in encouraging a child to independence. The parents and the other adults in the child’s life realize on many occasions that they do more harm than good on many occasions when they help the child. The child himself shows when he is ready to do something alone. The parents have an important role because we have to judge when the child is old and capable enough to do something alone. Then, the adults have to let and encourage the child but, by no means, do that instead of the child. In the research, we wish to ascertain what types of attitudes parents and preschool teachers have in encouraging a child to independence. Our research sample included 98 children aged from 3 to 7 years in the Kindergarten. The purpose of our research was to research how the parents and the preschool teachers let the children be independents, whether they encourage them in the process, and what the differences are in independence regarding the gender and the age of children. In the research, we ascertained that girls start to use cutlery sooner as the boys do. We also ascertained that boys need more encouragement in going to the toilet and in clearing the tables.
