Title:Using the stage gate approach in fuse development
Abstract:In my dissertation, we will dive into the topic of product development using the Stage gate method, which helps companies with the development of a new product. The competition in this market is incredibly strong, therefore successful development of a new product is of great importance. The contribution to this development is certainly added by a method that helps with achieving the set goal with intermediate stages that have a set of conditions that need to be met if development is to be proceeded to the next stage. From a financial point of view, this is a huge advantage because a company can always come back to the previous stage of development if those conditions are not met and fix the mistakes instead of finding out at the end that the product isn’t successful. We will also present how the Stage gate model works using a specific example in the Eled d.o.o. company, where they used this model to develop a mini fuse. We will present how they discovered a problem with a wrongly conceived melting part of the fuse on an intermediate stage. Because they were using this method, they were able to successfully construct and test a new shape of this part without any financial costs that would incur at the end if they did not have to meet the test criteria at an intermediate stage.
