Title:Antimikrobni učinek komercialnih in naravnih konzervansov v kozmetičnih izdelkih : magistrsko delo

Abstract:Sintetični konzervansi povzročajo skrbi čedalje več ljudem, saj se je ozaveščenost o njihovem vplivu na okolje in vplivu na naše zdravje povečala. Čeprav so konzervansi v kozmetičnih izdelkih uporabljeni v majhnih koncentracijah, velikokrat povzročajo alergijske reakcije pri uporabnikih. Posledično je čedalje več povpraševanja po naravni oz. samokonzervirajoči kozmetiki. V tem primeru se za zagotavljanje mikrobiološke čistosti izdelka lahko uporabijo razni rastlinski ekstrakti ali eterična olja, ki imajo antimikrobne lastnosti. Cilj magistrske naloge je bil proučiti antimikrobno delovanje različnih ekstraktov oz. eteričnih olj cimeta, čajevca, grenivke, ingverja, kurkume, limone, limonske trave, oljke, rožmarina, sivke, timijana, žajblja, žametnice ter mil in losjonov z vgrajenimi različnimi komponentami. Prav tako smo proučili antimikrobno delovanje komercialnih naravnih konzervansov Dermosoft® decalact liquid in LipoFresh™ PG. Antimikrobno učinkovitost omenjenih produktov smo na glivi Aspergillus brasiliensis in Candida albicans ter na bakterije Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas fluorescens in Staphylococcus aureus določevali z disk difuzijsko metodo. Ugotovili smo, da izkazujejo najboljše antimikrobno delovanje eterična olja, in sicer je zelo izstopalo eterično olje limonske trave. Tudi večina ekstraktov je delovala antimikrobno; največjo antimikrobno učinkovitost je imel superkritični ekstrakt cimeta. Mila so izkazovala boljše antimikrobno delovanje od losjonov. Dermosoft® decalact liquid je bil učinkovitejši od LipoFresh™ PG v zaviranju rasti izbranih testnih mikroorganizmov. Najmanj vzorcev je inhibiralo rast P. aeruginose.

Title:Antimicrobial effect of commercial and natural preservatives in cosmetic products
Abstract:Synthetic preservatives cause concern to many people because of the reports on their negative impact on the environment and on our health. Even though preservatives are usually used in small concentrations, they are considered as one of the main factors causing allergies to users. Therefore, there is a growing demand for cosmetics that is natural and preservative-free. An alternative way to solve the problem of microbial purity of cosmetics is the use of various plant extracts or essential oils which are not preservatives but also exhibit antimicrobial activity. The aim of this study was to compare the antimicrobial activity of several herbal extracts and essential oils (cinnamon, tea tree, grapefruit, ginger, turmeric, lemon, lemongrass, olive tree, rosemary, lavender, thyme, sage, and marigold), soaps, and lotions with different compositions and natural preservatives Dermosoft® decalact liquid and LipoFresh™ PG. The antimicrobial activity was determined by the disc diffusion method on fungi A. brasiliensis and C. albicans and on bacteria B. cereus, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, P. fluorescens, and S. aureus. Essential oils possessed the best antimicrobial activity with the essential oil from lemongrass having the best activity. Most extracts had antimicrobial properties. The best one was a supercritical extract of cinnamon. Soaps had better antimicrobial activity than lotions and Dermosoft® decalact liquid was more effective than LipoFresh™ PG. Growth of bacteria P. aeruginosa was inhibited by the least amount of the samples.
