Title:Information communication technology and the aspects of relational interactions as predictors of romantic relationship quality: the moderating role of attachment
Abstract:Information and communication technology (ICT) is widespread to the extent that it represents a constant in the life of each individual and can have different consequences for the quality of a romantic relationship. Equally important for the quality of a romantic relationship are relational aggression and victimization, which occur within all relationships, not just partnerships. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate how the use of different types of communication (calls, SMSs, social networking sites (SNS), web communication applications), relational aggression and victimization predict the quality of a romantic relationship and what role do anxious and avoidant attachment play in this as potential moderators. The sample was obtained through an online survey and included 229 participants between the ages of 18 and 66. The results showed that the strongest predictor of positive relationship quality aspect was the attachment style, while the rest were age, the total time of use of web communication applications, the use of Facebook, Facebook Messenger and email. The strongest predictor of negative relationship quality aspect was again attachment style, while the rest were joint life, relationship length, total time of use of the SNS and web communication applications and relational victimization. Moderator analysis revealed only a significant interaction between the time used for calls and anxious attachment for positive relationship quality aspect, while other predicted interactions did not prove to be statistically significant. In the following sections, the broader findings of the research are being discussed and implications for future research are being made.
Keywords:information communincation technology, relational aggression, relational victimization, adult attachment, romantic relationship quality
