Title:The attitude of volunteer firefighters towards providing first aid at intervention
Abstract:Introduction: Volunteer firefighters are often first at the scene of an accident, incident, and are forced to provide first aid to the injured in their field work, interventions. However, the question arises whether they are sufficiently trained and sovereign to provide first aid before the arrival of professionally trained health care professionals. Methods: We used the descriptive method of work and the quantitative method to produce the thesis. Both domestic and foreign literature were used to construct a theoretical starting point. In the empirical part, we used an anonymous questionnaire consisting of 15 mixed-type questions, namely open-ended and closed-ended questions and partially open-ended questions. The target population was firefighters of volunteer firefighting societies in the mainly northeastern part of Slovenia. Results: The surveyed population felt that they felt responsible for providing first aid as firefighters at the intervention and as lay people. Occasionally, there are also reservations in the provision of first aid, which is not a common occurrence, since they believe that volunteer firefighters are generally well trained in first aid in the field and are eager to become the first facilitators. Only the fact that the state does not care enough for the orderly education and contribution for the procurement of materials and supplies for adequate and prompt first aid delivery was highlighted. Discussion and conclusion: Volunteer firefighters are prepared to provide first aid at the intervention, but many respondents miss out on the training to behave properly when potentially needed to provide first aid, as they are limited because of fear of ignorance.
