Title:The issue of employing elderly people
Abstract:The rapidly aging population is an acute problem, especially in countries where the number of elderly people is increasing. The aging is a result of a longer average life span, as well as low levels of fertility and migrations. In the research paper, we wish to present the politics of employing elderly people in Slovenia and what kind of problems can the elderly and employers face. For this, we conducted a research among elderly workers and employers in the north-eastern part of Slovenia. It turns out, that the employers are well aware of the quality that their elderly workers possess, but due to politics and laws, they are hesitant in employing them, and for their already senior staff, they take care in different ways. Most times, they help them with acquiring documentation, with which they show their qualifications for work, and they try to, to the best of their abilities, employ them in less (especially physically) strenuous areas. Their knowledge is often used to help teams with predominantly younger employees. On the other hand, the elderly also appear to be aware of the abilities, specifically their knowledge and experiences, as well as their loyalty. Despite all of this, due to their shortcomings with handling technology, mobility or level of education, feel in an inferior position.
