Abstract:

Title:
Teaching and learning about polluted air with the help of multimedia teaching contents in year 5 of Primary school
Abstract:
This master’s thesis studies the effect the multimedia way of teaching and learning has on the progress and sustainability of knowledge of the 5th grade learners. We focused on the learning content about the polluted air that is in the curriculum for science and technology. Furthermore we wanted to hear the opinion of 43 students of the 5th grade about the carried out lessons. We also needed the opinion of teachers who imported the method of a flipped classroom as a part of their action research. In the research we have used a descriptive and a causal experimental method of empirical and pedagogical research. Within this we have collected the data with the knowledge tests, questionnaire and standardized interview. The data was then processed with quantitative and qualitative methodology. The results show that the multimedia contents used in the experimental group have led to statistically typical differences in the progress and the sustainability of knowledge of the 5th grade students in the learning content »The air pollution and measures for cleaner air«. The majority (90,7 %) of the respondents have liked the lesson with multimedia content and the use of tablet PCs. They were particularly enthusiastic about the videos, tablets and animation. The teachers have given us quite different opinions about the flipped classroom, but have expressed desire to use the method again.
