Abstract:Namen diplomskega dela je ovrednotiti premik kritične micelne koncentracije (CMC) površinsko aktivne snovi, natrijevega dodecil sulfata (SDS) ob dodatku različnih anionov, ki sestavljajo t.i. Hofmeisterjevo vrsto. V ta namen smo izbrali NaCl, NaNO3, Na2CO3, Na2SO4 in KSCN.

Title:Influence of the Hofmeister series on the shift of the critical micelle concentration surfactants (an ionic type)
Abstract:The purpose of the present graduation thesis is to evaluate the shift of the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of a surface active substance, sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), with addition of various anions, which constitute the so-called Hofmeister series. Measurements were conducted at two temperatures; 293,15 K and 202,15 K. Ultrapure water (Mili-Q) was used for the preparation of solutions. Concentrations of added anions were 1 mM and 10 mM. For this purpose, NaCl, NaNO3, Na2CO3, Na2SO4 and KSCN were chosen. Measurement of specific conductivity in dependence on solution concentration was the basis for the determination of CMC. Values of the specific conductivity change at the transition from premicellar sphere into micelle sphere in such a way that CMC can be determined graphically on the basis of the intersection of two lines with different inclines. Values of CMC solutions with addition of ions from Hofmeister series are in accordance with their position in the Hofmeister series.
Keywords:surface active substances, critical micelle concentration (CMC), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), specific conductivity, Hofmeister series
