Title:Nonprofessional athletes' awareness of arterial hypertension
Abstract:Starting point and purpose: In Slovenia, from 2400 to 4500 deaths can be contributed to consequences of arterial hypertension. The purpose of the study was to determine the extent to which arterial hypertension is present among non-professional athletes and to determine their lifestyle. Research methodology: The research sample consisted of 92 respondents, of which 71 were men and 21 women. Results: The study found that more than half of the respondents (71%) believe that non-professional athletes with high blood pressure have a higher chance of acute myocardial infarction in physical activity than those who do not have problems with blood pressure. 58 (63%) of respondents occasionally consider other factors of a healthy lifestyle in addition to physical activity. The principles of a healthy lifestyle are always considered by half (29%) of the respondents. Regarding being familiar with resuscitation procedures, 42% of respondents assessed themselves with a good (3) grade, while 3% of respondents rated themselves as excellent (5). Discussion and conclusion: With regular physical activity and a healthy lifestyle, we contribute to the regulation of blood pressure, which plays a significant role in cardiovascular disease and also improves psycho-physical abilities. The study found that it would be sensible to introduce first aid courses and the use of AED in sports clubs and associations, as sudden cardiac arrest is common in sports venues.
Keywords:exercise, blood pressure, athlete, sudden cardiac death, lifestyle.
