Title:Communication Problems in Selected Facebook Conversations
Abstract:Communication is a process. Many people encounter with it on a daily basis; it is used to negotiate about the most basic tasks or quite complicated errands and processes. However, we rarely ask ourselves whether we achieved the goal due to successful communication or not. We often attribute failure to other factors, despite the fact that effective communication is the key to success. In the following master's thesis, I want to highlight obstacles that arise in the process of communication, what we need to be aware of during the process of communication and what should we avoid when we want to achieve successful communication. For the analysis, I have used selected Facebook conversations to make a comparison between the language online with literary norm, and whether deviation between the two is the reason why communication barriers are made. Selected Facebook conversations were held by members of the closed group on Facebook, which is intended for asking questions, finding solutions and giving opinions in certain aspects of upbringing. The name of the group will remain anonymous in order to protect personal data of the members of the group. The master's thesis researches the characteristics of verbal and non-verbal communication and communication online. The selected conversations in the Slovene language will be analyzed more closely. Based on that the extent to which the characteristics of online texts are reflected will be analyzed as well. For the analysis, I used five conversations involving 83 people. In addition to the analysis of online texts, it will also be determined which factors lead to communication problems.
