Abstract:V diplomski nalogi sem raziskala problematiko uporabe novih psihoaktivnih substanc.

Title:Use of new psychoactive substances
Abstract:In this thesis I studied the problem of use of new psychoactive substances. A new psychoactive substance can be defined as a narcotic drug or a new psychotropic drug in pure form or in a preparation that is not listed in the United Nation Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs from 1961 and in the Convention on Psychotropic Substance from 1971, but which may pose a public health threat. These are substances that have been modified a while ago, but have only become popular on the market in the last couple of years and because of that they are named ''new psychoactive substances''. I was particularly interested in effects of new substances - whether they are stronger and more dangerous to the human psyche and body, than the effects of traditional drugs. Through research I came to the conclusion that new psychoactive substances have a more harmful impact on the user, but this cannot be said with certainty, as information on toxicity and effects is still limited at the moment. The health problems that arise from the use of new drugs are complicated but the purchase of them is by contrast simpler. This is mainly facilitated by the online sale on the surface web, which is reachable to everyone who knows how to use a computer or some other electronic device. I also devoted my attention to how they discover the presence of new psychoactive substances in someone's body. A major problem and, at the same time, a challenge for law enforcement and the healthcare professionals is that new substances cannot be detected through quick, widespread routine immunochemical tests on drugs. The presence of substances in the organism can only be confirmed by good laboratory analyses carried out by the Toxicology Laboratory for Forensic Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine Ljubljana.
