Title:The application of educational information systems and their influence to the teacher – student – parent relations
Abstract:The introduction of school information systems has brought many positive and negative changes into schools and homes. Parents and teachers can access the grades and other information about pupils from a distance. We must be aware that nowadays, the use of technology is present, so we need to accept it and learn how to best use it. In the theoretical part of the master's thesis eAsistent and Lo.Polis are described as the leading school information systems in Slovenia. All what the systems offer and which functions are available to parents and teachers are described. Some views regarding electronic grading book are mentioned and controversy about introducing electronic grade book, and the importance of feedback. We also highlighted the so-called “helicopter parenting”, which developed as a result of over-controlled parents. A special chapter is dedicated to information communicative technologies – ICT, their description, their role in the classroom and with the teachers. In the empirical part we used an online questionnaire and examined parent’s views on the use of school information systems and how it influences their relationship with their children. We were interested in which applications within the school information system are most looked at, and the level of trust between parents and children. We also examined if the communication between the parents and their children is more frequent with the regard to the use of school information systems. We then explored teachers’ opinions on school information systems, how they find the application, if facilitates and shortens their work, and how transparent is the application. Teachers were also asked if it is possible for the application to replace the parent-teacher conference.
