V teoretičnem delu so predstavljene sporazumevalne dejavnosti, in sicer spretnost poslušanja, govorjenja, branja in pisanja.

Title:Literacy verification of first grade children before and after learning letters
Abstract:This master's thesis is being focused on literacy verification of first grade children before and after learning letters. In the theoretical part of the thesis, some communicational activities are being presented, such as, ability of listening, talking, reading and writing. A human being hears first, then he learns how to speak, then reads and writes. Listening is the basis for the developing of the following three skills. Speaking is taught by children through listening. The child learns unknowingly from reading and writing, even in the pre-school age. In the first grade of the elementary school, the literacy process begins, i.e. learning how to read and write. Literacy is systematic and free, in order to encourage free reading and writing. All four communicational activities are key to achieving reading and writing skills. The theoretical part also includes the learning goals from the curriculum for learning Slovene language, which are fulfilled in the development of communicational skills. The development of skills does not take place only at learning Slovene language as a school subject, but it also connects and spreads among other subjects in the school. In the empirical part, the purpose of the research was to test the literacy of first-graders in order to determine the progress of literacy skills before and after learning letters. The emphasis of the experiment was on the sounding and writing of words by difficulty. Through the obtained results, we found that the knowledge of sounding and writing after reading the letters increased, from the first to the second experiment. Five Maribor elementary schools participated in the survey. Two literacy tests were solved by 191 children.
