Konji, zajeti v vzorec, so bili večinoma v sprejemljivi, ustrezni in dobri (4–6) telesni kondiciji, kar kaže na ustrezno oskrbovanost konj z dnevnim obrokom krme. Vsi oskrbniki konjem omogočajo dostop do čiste vode ter jim zagotavljajo ustrezno pogostost krmljenja.

Title:Assessment of welfare conditions and body condition score in breeding horses with respect to traditional experience and scientific knowledge
Abstract:The aim of the present study was to examine if the grooms respect the Law on Animal Protection and professional standards for horse welfare. The standards that were checked in our study were appropriate housing, litter, ground, light, ventilation, release, pasture, feeding, access to clean water and care for feed hygiene. Physical condition was also assessed using a 9-point scale (1 to 9; BCS according to Henneke). The method includes visual assessment and palpable fat layers on six parts of the horse body. Our sample comprised 130 locations for rearing horses. The results showed appropriate size of the individual boxes (with the minimum size of 3.7 m × 3.7 m) and passages between boxes (which should be at least 2.4 m), but often improper size of boxes for mares with foals, which is generally bellow the prescribed minimum (4.6 m × 4.6 m). Inappropriate pasture area was also found in relation to the capacity of grazing horses. As regards body condition, horses were mostly assessed as being in acceptable, appropriate or good condition (4-6), which indicates adequate feeding. Horses had suitably arranged running tracks, fences and pasture as well as adequate shelter and dry bedding in case of wintering outdoors. Regular review and correction of hooves was mainly carried out. All horses had free access to clean water and adequate frequency of feeding.
