Title:Awareness of women about contraception after childbirth
Abstract:Theoretical background: Family planning allows couples to plan their family and have as many children as they want and at the intervals they want. They can achieve that by choosing the appropriate methods of contraception. Is is important for women to be aware of appropriate methods of contraception because inapropriate use might lead to unwanted pregnancy. Research methodology: In the thesis descriptive method is used and the research is based on the quantitative methodology. The anonymus partly structured survey questionnaire, comprizing 19 questions, served as the research instrument. The survey was conducted at one of the gynecological dispensaries in notheastern Slovenia with 30 randomly selected women of child-bearing age participating. Results: The survey found women are not familiar with all methods of contraception, neither with special conditions of lactational amenorrhea. It also found that women know about the age appropriate for female sterilization and that they are aware of withdrawal method being an unreliable method of contraception. The survey found that 93 % of women are informed of the appropriate methods of contraception for the period after childbirth. Conclusion: Based on the survey we came to the conclusion of women being aware of the appropriate methods of contraception for the period after childbirth. For better information for women with insufficient awareness of the appropriate methods of contraception for the period after childbirth, wider choice of leaflets available at gynecological dispensaries with more materials and lectures on this topic could be offered.
