Abstract: | One of the biggest threats drivers face nowadays is impaired driving. While there are many distractions on the road, our masters degree is based on the impact that using mobile devices whilst driving motor vehicles has on the driver. Our main goal is to point out the issues and create awareness among the people because using mobile devices while driving can lead to many serious consequences which are mainly reflected in traffic accidents. The theoretical part of our masters degree includes discussion about reasons for using mobile devices, ways of using, Slovenian and foreign law, the dangers and consequences of the use of mobile devices. On the other hand, we will compare solutions as well as measures to reduce the use of mobile devices while driving.
We conducted a survey, included in our empirical part. We researched the use of mobile devices among vehicle drivers and made statistical analysis, used to determine the extent to which people use mobile devices, in what ways are they using them and whether they are aware of its dangers and consequences. The study, consisting of 50 variables and 285 respondents, has helped us in verifying our six hypotheses. The results of the survey indicate that 79 % of respondents use their mobile devices while driving for different purposes, such as phone calls, text messages, navigation, photoshooting, checking news feeds and publishing on social networks. Data analysis has shown that individuals are aware of the dangers of using mobile devices while driving, but nevertheless that does not deter them from using. In the future a step towards the reduction and prevention of the use of mobile devices while driving, should be taken. However, we should also be aware that the use of mobile device in certain situations may be useful and unavoidable. |
