Abstract:Na osnovi študija obstoječe sodobne literature in virov smo na temo ohranjanja humorja v prevodih britanskih nadaljevank analizirali kulturno-specifične prvine in prenos le teh v tujo kulturo v znani britanski nadaljevanki Samo bedaki in konji. Zbrane podatke smo ustrezno uredili s pomočjo deskriptivne in komparativne raziskovalne metode.

Title:THE PRESERVATION OF HUMOUR IN THE TRANSLATION OF THE BRITISH TELEVISION SERIES ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES
Abstract:Based on a study of existing contemporary literature and sources on the topic of preserving humour in British television series we have analyzed the culture-specific elements and their transfer to a foreign culture in the popular British television series Only Fools and Horses. The following diploma thesis is divided into two parts. In the first, theoretical part the attention was drawn to the characteristics of British humour and also the term situational comedy as a television genre was defined. Furthermore, we have also pointed out the issue of translating humour and the transfer of culture-specific contents from source language to target language, which often gets lost during the process of subtitling. British English is a language full of word play, false friends and idioms, which can make it even more difficult to translate humorous contents from source to target culture. Moreover, the use of modern-age translating tools as a help while translating expert texts was emphasized. The subject of the analysis of this diploma thesis is the popular British television series Only Fools and Horses, which has become a world-wide hit thanks to the specific type of John Sullivan’s humour. The thesis was composed based on the study of current and relevant literature and also by collecting sources and documentation. The collected data was appropriately arranged and processed with the use of the descriptive and research method.
