Title:An assessment of sustainability of agriculture in Slovenia in the period 2000-2013
Abstract:Thesis presents a model for assessment of sustainability of agriculture in Slovenia in the period 2000-2013. The first aim of the thesis was to assess the objectives of the Common Agricultural Policy in terms of the agricultural sustainability by using standard evaluation methods. Second aim of the thesis was to update the modelling tool for assessing the sustainability of Slovenian agriculture . The modelling tool is defined at three levels. The first level consists of three sustainability aspects: economic, environmental and social. The second level is defined by nine sustainability parameters, which were already identified through the assessment of sustainability of the objectives of the CAP. The third level is defined by 34 sustainability indicators. Indicators are standardized using the unitless scale and standardized normal distribution, providing desired characteristics for aggregation to different levels of parameters and sustainability aspects (economic, environmental, social). Since each indicator contributes differently to the overall assessment of sustainability, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was used to determine the weights for each indicator, parameter and aspect of sustainability. Indices of sustainability for each aspect are calculated as the average of the particular weighted indicator. The Agricultural Sustainability Index is composed from the average values for all sustainability aspects.
