Abstract:

Title:
Efficiency comparison of preventing the pest control and diseases on apple trees between the standard integrated production and the “Zero residue” production concept
Abstract:
In 2008, two field trials were carrid out on the premises of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences in Pivola in Maribor and at the Fruit-growing center MIROSAN in the Savinja valley to study the influence of integrated and »zero residue« production systems on pest control, fruit quality and the quantity of the Elstar apple crop. We evaluated the presence of certain diseases and pests, and compared the yields between two tested apple production systems. We tested the technical feasibility of the "zero residue fruit production" system and identify opportunities for reducing the levels of pesticide residues in apples at harvest time. We have also performed a statistical analysis of values of pesticide residue concentration in apples at harvest. We found that the system "zero residue" is equally effective in combating diseases and pests when compared to a standard integrated system and it only causes a minor crop loss, which is economically acceptable.
